Case brief

Situation

Mervane SA (fictitious entity), an industrial company, closes its accounts on 31 December 20X6; the financial statements will be authorised for issue on 28 February 20X7. The preparer builds the presentation file submitted to a review check: classification of a borrowing whose covenant is not met at the closing date, going concern with a working capital deficit, compliance statement, comprehensive income and changes in equity, and a transition note to IFRS 18. IAS 1 remains applicable until IFRS 18 applies (annual periods beginning on or after 1 January 2027). Teaching simulation: the review trail of the file (preparation, reviewer notes and final sign-off) is simulated for demonstration purposes; it is neither a real review nor a validation of the content.

Your assignment

Compute the non-current portion of the Altis borrowing, judge the right to defer at the closing date in view of the letter of 20 February 20X7 and record the reclassification; compute the total of current liabilities; assess going concern and the compliance statement; compute the reclassifiable subtotal, total comprehensive income and closing equity; record the reclassification to profit or loss; write the transition view to IFRS 18; present the cumulative effect of the entries, the information to prepare for the notes, deal with the review points and conclude.

You prepare a complete file: documents, work, entries and conclusion, then compare your work with the solution and the review points of the file.

Autonomous professional situation

As on a real engagement: no method, no checklist and no hints. You identify the issues yourself, organise the work and defend your conclusion.

  • Organise the work
  • Document each point
  • Argue the conclusion
