Step 1 of 5Learning objectives
Go deeper+1 calculation · +1 point of attention
A liability is measured as if transferred to a market participant, the liability remaining outstanding. The measurement reflects non-performance risk, adds no separate discount for a transfer restriction and, for a demand liability, does not fall below the discounted amount payable on demand.

Learning objectives
- Explain why a liability is measured as if transferred and not settled with the counterparty.
- Choose the measurement approach depending on whether another party holds the item as an asset, and calculate a present value with a margin.
- Calculate the effect of non-performance risk and apply the rules for demand liabilities and transfer restrictions.
